Charles Deitch is a veteran DJ who has entertained countless audiences. He has 50 years of DJ experience as well as an expansive song collection of over 300,000 songs.
DJ Charlie D, as he is known, has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to pop music. He knows all the pop hits going all the way back to the beginning of the Billboard music charts.
When he came to the Boca Raton Public Library on Feb. 24, he gave a presentation where he played snippets of popular songs of the 20th century. These songs were introduced by bits of trivia.
Throughout the show he allowed audience members to guess which artists and songs he would play. The audience of 72 people were glad to play along.
Some also got up and danced during songs like Chubby Checker’s “The Twist.” Charlie’s shows have a fun light-hearted energy.
Outfitted with a gold and black vest, decorated with large musical notes, he danced and lipsynced during each song he played. He even mimed playing the guitar and saxophone with plastic inflatable toy instruments. This made the audience laugh and cheer. It was unlike other performances at the library.
DJ Charlie D gave audience members: music history, laughs, and a trip down memory lane. Songs like Billy and the Comets’ “Rock Around the Clock” and Bobby Darin’s “Splish Splash” had the audience singing along. Most didn’t want to leave, and Charlie extended his hour long show for about twenty minutes. I’m sure they look forward to seeing him again.
