Did you know that Friends retired Board member, Betty Grinnan, is a member of The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America?
Since 2012, the Friends have collaborated with the Dames under Betty's guidance to bring an historical speaker to Boca Raton twice a year. The Friends host a presentation at the library as a special event, completed with a catered reception.
After Betty's retirement from the Board in 2019, the Friends presentation series was named the Betty Grinnan Friends of the Library Program for American History. This has become one of the Friends most popular events, and includes an afternoon presentation to the children from the Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, where Betty was a volunteer librarian. We have had the opportunity to meet and hear from some of the most important Presidents, Wives of Presidents, Signers of the Declaration of Independence and famous American inventors, including George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, Abigail Adams, Dolly Madison, Ben Franklin and Frederick Douglass.
