Education is any time and at any place. We learn with our senses from the moment we are born. Candace Lehenbauer, owner of The Tapestry Academy, and a homeschool parent to 6 children for over 13 years, was the featured speaker at our Homeschool Curriculum Planning special event on Thursday, August 1st, where our engaged audience of 45+ followed Candace's humorous homeschool learning adventures and gathered some insights and tools to start or augment their own homeschool learning experiences. Ms. Lehenbauer discussed the benefits of homeschooling, how to discover what methods work for you, and how to network with other homeschool parents and find online tools for homeschooling your children.
"Homeschooling is a leap of faith. Make weekly goals!" Candace explained. She also shared that it is important to be prepared for setbacks and that it takes time to find a schedule that works for you.
Other presenters rounded out the program - BRPL Youth Services Librarian, Kristine Kreidler, and Digital Librarian, Vicky Fitzsimmons, presented technology and database resources available to homeschool parents at the Boca Raton Public Library, and Christie Collins, Science Educator at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, presented information on classes and tours available for interactive learning experiences at Gumbo Limbo.
Bookstore staff was on hand to sell homeschooling books, which proved to be popular with the audience, and Dr. N'Quavah Velazquez from Achievement Heights Academy and Studios was on hand to encourage participation in the Academy's free children's choir.
It was a very successful evening, with the Friends gaining new members (Not a member? Join us here!) and an eager and engaged audience. For other homeschool resources, check out the books below from the Boca Raton Public Library.
